 Environment

Every business needs to take action to protect the environment. Avis is playing its part.

Our commitment to the future

Avis takes its environmental responsibilities seriously. We are committed to measuring the impact that our business has on the environment and taking steps to reduce it.

Practical steps to reduce our environmental impact

Steps we've taken include changing our fleets regularly to ensure they operate as efficiently as possible. For example;

  • In Sweden, Avis has invested in more than 400 of the new ethanol-powered Saab 9-5 BioPower cars, along with around 75 Ford Flexi-fuel and 20 Toyota Prius.
  • In the US 500 Nissan Altima Hybrid vehicles and 1,000 Toyota Priuses have been introduced
  • In the UK we have reduced our rental fleet emissions by 4%
  • At our HQ we continue to operate efficient systems to minimize our CO2 emissions

A CarbonNeutral company

Avis has been a CarbonNeutral company since 2000. We offset every tonne of carbon we can't avoid by paying for one tonne to be saved through climate friendly initiatives. Over the past decade we have:

  • Planted over 2 hectares of new woodland in 9 European locations
  • Part-financed a small-scale hydro power project in Bulgaria
  • Supported an agricultural methane capture project in Germany

We're always on the look-out for the next initiative to support and our investment in such schemes will grow as we do.

Long term commitment

Our commitment is for the long-term and carbon management is a key part of our business strategy. We've been taking action since 2000 and are developing ways to minimise our impact and mobilise our customers to help protect our world for future generations. But then when it comes to the environment, as in every area of our business, We Try Harder
